The Chamaedorea Palm is easy to care for and comes from Central and South America. The Chamaedorea is also called the Mexican dwarf palm. The plant is loved as decoration by the feathery leaves. The plant grows slowly and remains small, making it suitable for any living room.
Location
The Chamaedorea does like light, but not direct sunlight. A spot in the semi-shade is therefore the best solution. Place the plant in front of a window on the north. When the plant starts to have yellow leaves, this means that the plant gets too much light and you need to provide more shade.
Spraying
It is certainly advisable to spray the Chamaedorea regularly. If this is not done, the plant is extra sensitive to spider mites. Spray the plant twice a week to prevent this.
Watering
Make sure that the soil of the Chamaedorea always remains moist but is not completely submerged. If there is too much water in the soil, the roots will rot and if there is too little water in it, it can also be harmful for the plant. It is advisable to buy a humidity meter for this plant.
Repotting
Repot the Chameadorea once every 2 years. This ensures that the plant has more soil and thus a larger storage for nutrients. In addition, the soil also provides a larger water buffer so that the plant is less likely to run out of water. Always repot in the spring, so that the plant can recover from any damage.
Nutrition
Chamaedorea is not a fast grower and generally does not need much extra nutrition. Only give the plant some extra nutrition in the summer. Do this once a month with Pokon green plant food.
Origin
The Chameadorea comes from Central and South America, but mainly from Mexico. That is why the plant is also called Mexican Miniature Palm. Chamai’ means ‘on the ground’ and ‘Dorea’ means ‘gift. The plant often grows in the shade of other large trees and therefore quickly finds a good habitat in houses.
Diseases
The Chameadorea is susceptible to spider mites. Therefore make sure you spray the plant regularly, this is not fun for the spider mite and this way you prevent it. If the plant does suffer from it, it is advisable to buy a biological or if desired a chemical pesticide.
