Intro
Whether it’s the trendy geometric shapes or the unapproachable look, the Cactus is an exciting houseplant that has a great effect on an interior and often generations of experience with its owners. The comeback of this classic is mainly in the fact that it is a very easy houseplant and in the distinctive look, which suits well with people who love special designs.
Location
In this area, the cactus is perhaps one of the easiest plants. You could put the cactus in a light spot but also the shade. Some species, especially bulbous plants, can tolerate a lot of light and can be placed in the sun. Be careful when exposed to bright sunlight. Let the cactus gradually get used to the sunlight so they can get used to it. The plant also wants at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. Usually place the plant in front of the window facing south. When you have the plant a little more shade, you need to water it a little less, because less water will be used.
Watering
As is well known, cacti can survive long without water. The leaf hardly evaporates any water and therefore retains it for a very long time. In addition, many cacti can suck up their own weight with water. The cactus could then up to 12 weeks without water. The lower the temperature, the less water the plant consumes, so you have to take into account how much water you consume at which temperatures. In the summer it is necessary to let the soil dry in between watering sessions. This prevents the roots from rotting. You will only see this later when it is too late. Pay attention to this.
Spraying
Spraying itself is not necessary for the cactus. However, it is recommended when the plant suffers from different kinds of pests. Make sure you use low-lime water when spraying to prevent lime deposits. It is best to use rainwater.
Repotting
Repot a cactus only if it is really necessary. It is already difficult to repot cacti. Use gloves or towels for protection against the spines. When repotting, use a new pot that is at least 20% wider. Always repot in the spring, so that the plant can recover from any damage.
Origin
The cactus comes from Africa and Central and South America. They can be found in the high mountains as well as in the tropical Caribbean. The cactus belongs to the family Cactaceae.
Diseases
A too-high humidity can lead to fungi and the cactus can suffer from mealy bugs. This is easy to combat by giving the plant a hard jet of water.
